Cannes: Joachim Lafosse’s "After Love" notches up good sales

The world premiere of "After Love" was given at the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes. This seventh feature by Joachim Lafosse was very well received by critics and the public.

The industry has also picked up on the film’s success, to go by the results of the Film Market held on the sidelines of the Festival. Indeed, Le Pacte, the company in charge of international sales, is already announcing several distribution deals with Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, the UK, Greece, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and the Middle East.

A number of major festivals have also already extended invitations to screen the film.

Shot in Brussels, "After Love” features the actors Berenice Bejo, Cédric Kahn, Marthe Keller, Jade and Margaux Soentjens.

After 15 years together, Mary and Boris are separating. But while she may have bought the house in which they live with their two children, he was the one who completely renovated it. Now they are forced to live together in the house, as Boris doesn’t have enough money to move out. At the end of the day, neither wants to let go of what they see as their contribution.

"After Love” is once again co-produced by Versus Production (Jacques-Henri and Olivier Bronckart) and Prime Time (Flanders) in Belgium and Les Films du Worso (Sylvie Pialat) in France with the backing of the Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, Wallonia, the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF) and the Tax Shelter of the Belgian Federal Government. It was co-produced by RTBF and BeTv-Voo. It is distributed in Benelux by O'Brother Distribution and in France by Le Pacte, who are also handling international sales.

Already critically acclaimed in 2006 at the Venice Film Festival for "Private Property" with Isabelle Huppert, Joachim Lafosse was selected two years later for the Directors' Fortnight with "Private Lessons". He then saw his career go from strength to strength with each new film, culminating with the national and international recognition earned by "Our Children" (selected in the “Un Certain Regard” category that saw Émilie Dequenne come away with the Best Actress award, and winner of the Grand Prize at the Magritte Film Festival). In late January 2016, he released "The White Knights" presented at the Toronto Film Festival and San Sebastian where he won the award for Best Director. With "After Love", he has tackled for the first time a project that is not his own brainchild, since the script was penned by Mazarine Pingeot and Fanny Burdino.
