For the Dubai World Expo, the two brothers NOIR artist takes part in "Wallonia-Brussels week" by performing "Live Painting" in the Belgian pavilion.

NOIR artist? Who are they?

NOIR artist are two brothers. Lucien and Martin Gilson: one creates, the other takes care of contacts. Each with elegance, humour and humility. Together, they plan to use art to reveal "a society that wants to be more positive, more respectful of people in general, and of young people in particular."

Trained at Saint-Luc (Liège), Lucien is attracted by the creative, patchwork aspect of what he observes. In paintings, drawings, giant frescoes, wall art, trompe-l'œil, decoration and urban design, he first explores a dark world, under tension. He is constantly in search of new forms and new media, and is developing an individual graphic style. He works with a spray can as well as a brush, tears paper, takes inspiration from advertising and superheroes, uses virtual reality to create his drafts and does not rule out integrating sculpture into his work. Over time, he adds touches of gold or colour, while keeping the shades of black that are his signature.

Lucien and Martin Gilson live and work in Liège (Belgium).

What is your world, in a few words?

"I have always been fascinated by the ephemeral aspect of things, the speed at which information arrives and leaves, the advertisements on every street corner, on every magazine page. Our eyes become slaves without us noticing. The themes of my work have naturally focused on the observation that contemporary humans are gradually losing their vision of beauty, in a world where every day they are assailed by a bit more superfluous information. In my work, there is no obvious connection between the different characters and texts. My creations are often full of information, there is very little breathing space. There is no rest for the eye. For me, this is the best way to paint a "mirror" of society, as I feel it."

What is your involvement in the Dubai World Expo?

“During the "Wallonia-Brussels week" of the Dubai World Expo, we will perform "Live Painting" in the magnificent Belgian pavilion. The objective is to ensure people discover our work gradually through this event. “

How is this important to you?

“Performing in such a place will allow us to show our work to an international audience curious to find out what is going on in Belgium.

This is an incredible opportunity for us and we hope that our performances will attract many visitors to the Pavilion. “

What are your plans?

“We are also taking advantage of this trip to Dubai to present our work to local art galleries. Our big project is to be able to exhibit in a large art gallery in Dubai. “
