Orthanc, a Walloon software, recipient of an US award

Sébastien Jodogne, doctor of computer science and researcher at the Medical Physics Department of the University Hospital of Liege, is the developer behind Orthanc, an open source software that facilitates file transfer in the field of medical imaging.

Orthanc, which can be consulted on-line from any computer, allows the exchange and sharing of information and files between hospitals, and avoids patients having to undergo repeated examinations in one hospital after another. It's a time-saver for patients and doctors alike, making it possible to start earlier treatment of the disease.

This has earned it the highest honour from The Free Software Foundation, which is awarded annually to a person "who has made a great contribution to the progress and development of free software", during a ceremony at the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston.
